The stories from the 19th – 20th century sewn into this work, represent a wide range of experiences from women traveling on their own in troubled times. These include a woman running for local political office, a suffragist determined to get her message out, (even when she became “disgusted with my profession”), women who served as nurses during wartime, a labor organizer who helped mine workers, and a wife who left a polygamist marriage who went on to publish a book about her experiences,
among others.

Some of these women are well known, others may not be, but all their voices are equally important in the telling of their stories, many which resonate with today’s current issues.
